Project Coordinator for political participation and capacity building of SPLM
In 2007 Norwegian Peoples Aid (NPA) Sudan Program established a project to contribute to the capacity building and development of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement, SPLM, from a liberation movement into a democratic political party. The project provides support to build party structures, development of party programme, and sector policies, build democratic structure at district level, build political capacity of party members, particularly women and youth and facilitate networking and exchange between SPLM and relevant democratic parties in Norway and Africa
The NPA Project coordinator for political participation is the manager of this project based in Juba, South Sudan with extensive travel. Under the supervision of the Civil Society Program Manager and in close cooperation with the Country Advisor and in coordination with other NPA team members, the Project Coordinator is responsible for:
- Manage the project activities according to programme plan and budget and the MOU between NPA and SPLM
- Facilitate technical and financial support through workshops, seminars and other relevant training.
- Facilitate the process of making inputs to the development of selected policy areas in SPLM.
- Partner capacity building and technical support as necessary including women can do it,
- Facilitate networking and contact with relevant organisations globally
- Act as the secretary for the Joint Steering committee for the project if requested
- Ensure financial and logistical transactions comply with NPA accounting and audit standards.
- Furnish regular project activity progress report to all concerned.
- Be focal person for communication and travel arrangement of consultants and resource person for the project.
- Update the supervisor and NPA reference group on progress on a regular basis.
- Follow project financial expenditure and report deviations and budgetary concerns.
Qualifications:
· Higher formal relevant education and relevant working experience
· Relevant experience from working with political parties and/or organisations
· Good knowledge of International and Norwegian Politics and extensive knowledge of issues related to Democratisation, Civil and Political Rights and Women’s Rights
· Good understanding of the intercultural challenges in the working environment
· Excellent communication and interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to meet deadlines, make agreements and work calmly under pressure
· Experience from project planning, implementation, follow up and reporting
· Previous working relations with national authorities, partner organisations and/or donors is an advantage
· Ability to work under and adapt to difficult and complex conditions
· Good knowledge in computer handling and report writing and written and verbal proficiency in English is demanded.
